Crrrrrrrrrrrome Chrome

Whoa the One has landed on the Planet of the Browsers. Google has found a true balance between the size of the program and it’s functionality. Unlike safari this one has a nicer feel to it. Early Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix adapters will simply love this browser for sure like me. I could go on but it’s better you have a look at it yourself at google labs(labs.google.com). It’s worth every kilobit. It reminds me of the old no frills firefox that was extremely functional. Addons can come and go but it’s important to keep on trimming the size of the package instead of bloating it in the name of security and such rubbish. Junk IE NOW! GO GOOGLE!

Ya ya everybody knows about Microsoft leaving Yahoo alone. But there is a bigger danger looming. In the middle of the whole distraction between the Big One and Yahoo there were hush hush rumors about an extremely disturbing scenario. There were rumors that the real devil himself would finance this deal. Yup I’m talking about Rupert Murdoch and his far right News Corp. Microsoft is one thing, but the parent company of Fox News acquiring the second largest search engine and among the largest news accumulators of the internet(yahoo news) sends shivers down my mailbox!
Yes I know the critics who say News Corp is just an investor and all that. But I’d rather not see partisan politics spread to the internet as well. The web would definitely be better off without the biased news spreading across the planet with several news agencies taking up all the ‘Fixed News’.

Meanwhile not much is happening on the technology front that really captures my eye. I believe that the prices of wireless networking need to go down further so that they will be affordable in developing countries as well.
A note here: what’s up with IEEE and it’s draft 802.11n(Wi-Max) standard. The final stuff is still to be decided and the routers yet to come out. Do it fast people so that consumers can buy without worrying if the standard would change a lot.

The sheen has worn off

Well that’s the big news. Apple’s Safari for windows now has vulnerabilities. I reported several inconsistencies in performance in my earlier posts upon launch of the product. Apple has yet to start frequently updating their product. Meanwhile not much on with the hardware and software world. I guess the 45nm processor chips are shipping and one hopes they run way way cooler than my laptop that is scaling me at this time

Noooooooooooooo

No No No this cannot be happening!!! Yahoo may go over to the dark side!!! From Sunnyvale California to the Hell called Remond Wa. I don’t know about you guys but I prefer my yahoo mail NOT my “windows live” Hotmail. I don’t really feel comfortable having my mail being run by the same ppl who built the really really wonderful OS on my PC. And I can’t really shift to another email address simply because this is my id on the internet. It’s the id I managed to give out to my classmates because sergey brin and larry page had barely been successful in creating the google search engine not the behemoth that it is today. Gmail simply wasn’t even on their minds.
I hear people calling it the next AOL-Time Warner merger. No it’s NOT! Those guys are just cable companies and simply large corporations who had similar work ethics -THEY HAD NONE!
As most people know Yahoo and MS are not remotely the same. MS is simply the corporate giant that conducts it operations ruthlessly decimating or else ignoring people. Yahoo does NOT work that way. We owe it to Hotmail sure for providing us the first free email service. But Yahoo integrated the service much much better even to this day simply because they looked at advertising as a way for revenue not the dumb idea of MS that people will be forced to pay for it. And what about the work fairly fun loving culture of Yahoo? If some MS employee is going to tell me they are fun loving they are only going to make a fool of themselves. Cmon ppl MS ‘s conquest of the PC market with windows doesn’t show how good an OS it is but how monopolistic MS is. Sure I support windows because it’s the Only OS made for the PC( Mac OS does not count) whose makers believe that a Graphical User Interface is the way of the future not the dumb command prompt like the stupid linux aficionados believe.
But that doesn’t change the fact that MS is still evil for the internet. Back off my mail box MS. The internet is the free world not your Soviet Union.

Boring friday

Most Americans probably know this but for the rest of the world the “black friday” sale is strange. Most of us sane ppl mourn if anything is called “black friday”. But looks like in the US, the store owners who were supposed to mourn their loss of prices are grinning with glee. There is nothing worth in such sale except increasing the deficit the US has with china.
Looks like LCD tv’s are big these days. I believe that LCD tv’s will replace all CRT displays with the next 2-3 yrs in the developed countries except for those nostalgic granpa’s of course. I doubt anyone in the US can claim to be even frugal let alone stingy which would hamper the sales in the other countries.

Well i said so

Well didn’t I say the I -pod was going to be updated. At last they have answered my prayers for a video enabled nano. Looks pretty good and has the advantage of flash memory too. Meanwhile the i pod touch is welcome for customers who do not wish to sign 2yr contracts with at&t though it has the drawback that it’s only an mp3 player with no phone. still if you have a wifi enabled environment it should not matter much. now if only they put in a microphone and a webcam inside the thing i can literally do away with the computer. We can only hope. The pricing remains as usual unjustified.
Meanwhile lots happening on the web these days. New ipo’s like alibaba.com owned partially by yahoo are raking in the billions. Facebook is on it’s way to being bought by microsoft completely (it has only 10% now). Several new applications are now available for use online only.
PS: One welcome change– a band tried to sell their music online for what ever price the users want to pay- no wonder half the ppl paid ZERO$. Well , atleast free music got a chance.

Well looks like it was just hype guys even though Safari looks cool on a Mac the code is clearly incompatible with Windows (Rats Gates!!) Too many forced shutdowns clearly make this beta non recommendable for even advanced uses for regular purposes. Plenty of sites including yahoo mail beta refuse to open in safari. For now stick with firefox inspite of it starting to get clunky like the rest of the browsers out there.
And speaking of browsers what’s UP with IE7. I had expected it to be more integrated into vista but sadly it is simply not up to the expectations. When I say close it simply restarts all over again.
I’ve tested vista and definitely it is not the best of operating systems but I wouldn’t shift to Mac OS X or Linux for the world. I’d rather shift back to an ancient XP than do that. For now I have to just bear with vista since it’s bought with my laptop.
P.S.: The lowdown on the street is that the I-pod may be further updated in the coming months so watch out. I doubt they are going to rest with just the i-phone.

It’s Hip It’s cool and it’s here

The Mac perspective is here for all us mortals. I’m a bit late on this but i wanted to be sure I’m not over hyping the product like most mac products are. Well obviously I’m comparing it with Firefox’s latest stable version as I strongly believe IE is way too slow for expert use. Well here is my opinion:
Stick with Firefox for now since the controls are much more familiar to windows users. For instance the CTRL+ENTER shortcut key doesn’t work in safari. Obviously plenty of bugs which would be expected in a beta.
On the positive side it takes the help of the “robust ” mac platform to deliver some amount of assurance to the users. Mac users will find it easy to use their office pc with this useful piece of software. For a browser that has to be nearly designed from scratch, the Apple Safari is pretty nimble. The pages load quite fast and the security options are pretty good for a beta.
On the whole, for the moment recommended for advanced users only as we don’t want ppl crying abt a computer crash. Not that there has been one. I suspect that bugs are only round the corner and hopefully will prove the vulnerability of Apple to the big bad world of the PC. I hope that because most mac are woefully unequipped against a malware attack.
Just because tiger is written in unix doesn’t mean viruses can’t be made for it and a lot of Mac users think that their computer is Hercules. They need to be told HERCULES IS ONLY A LEGEND!!! No petty machine can come near that!
One more jab at the Mac actually two more: Mac OS is not that stable as most people think it is. I personally have used one and it hung up about twice when i wasn’t even connected to the internet. I agree it is more stable than most machines but then u don’t see a monopoly of software on ur pc. We need the best software in every category to use not software from just one company!!
The last jab: What’s with the prices Apple! Nearly 1k$ for the mac mini when u can get a top of the line laptops at the same price! The accessories aren’t too cheap either. Just leave man and be satisfied with ur teensy weensy market share.

Yahooooo!

Way to go yahoo! Alright google! Looks like google is already making a difference. Microsoft’s reported offer to acquire yahoo is a clear indication that the software giant is panicking. Clearly google has affected. I guess Google is only a few years away b4 it topples Micosoft from it’s perch. I can predict pretty well that if google keeps up the same way we could be looking at a google operating system or atleast a google office in the medium term.
As far as my update on hardware and software goes, i hope core2 duo is less hot than the pentium D coz the one I have is simply below quality. Vista is good and I recommend the deployment of the OS on ur computer as soon as possible(it’ll take time for u to cough up money for 1gb ram but it has to happen someday). Not too many software released so it’s a slow part of the year.
